What is a Shadow?
All domains in the web have a Shadow page, one Shadow per domain. The Shadow works very much like a discussion forum, where you may ask questions, find help and share opinions without fear of censorship (within the limitations good taste, common sense and our Terms of Use)

How does the search work?
Activate the search field and type in the keywords you are looking for. The search is based on tags, so you should enter the words in their most basic form. Example: 'tower bridge thames london england'
How do I add friends?
There is a link next to all posts and comments, which adds the author to your friends list. You may then view their profile by selecting 'Show your friends' from the right side menu.
How do I remove friends?
Click 'Friends' link next to your picture on the right side menu and you will see your list of friends. Next to their picture you will find an option 'Remove from friends'.
Can I send messages to my friends?
Not yet. We are working on it. We also have other - paying - day jobs.
How can I see who has me in their friends list?
You can't.
How do I report a bug?

How come I can not change my name/birthday?
Not many people get reborn. If you really changed your name, email us at support@shadoweb.com and try to convince us.
The ShadoWeb Extension
What is the ShadoWeb extension?
Extensions are small, useful programs that add new features to your existing programs. Shadoweb extension adds a new button on your browsers toolbar, on the left to the address bar. This button opens and closes the Shadow. It also tells the user if there is content on that Shadow (doesn't work yet).
How do I get the ShadoWeb extension?
You may download the extension from here.
How do I remove the ShadoWeb extension?
You may remove the extension by using Firefox Extension Manager. Select 'Extensions' from the 'Tools' top menu, highlight the ShadoWeb extension in the list and select 'Uninstall'. Next time you start your browser, the extension will be completely removed.
How do I update the ShadoWeb extension?
You do not need to worry about updates. With your permission, the extension will update itself when it notices it has updates available.
I got Internet Explorer/Safari/Opera. How do I get the ShadoWeb extension?
The ShadoWeb extension is not yet available for these browsers. We will support them all by the end of June. In the meanwhile, we can only recommend using the Firefox browser, by far the best browser available.
Do I need the ShadoWeb extension to use the service?
You can use the ShadoWeb without the extension, but you'll miss most of the fun. The whole point to the service is the convenience of being able to access the conversations on the spot, with a click of a button.
Can I add a keyboard shortcut for the ShadoWeb extension?
Not yet.
My Profile
How do I register?
Go to http://www.shadoweb.com and click "Join!" on the right-top corner.
How can I remove my profile?
We don't have automatic feature for this yet. Please email to us at devteam@shadoweb.com and ask for removal.
I have problems logging into the service. What now?
Select the link 'Forgot your password?' next to the login box and send an email to our support team. Tell your user name and try to describe your problem in detail.
I have forgotten my password
Select the link 'Forgot your password?' next to the login box. You must email from the same address, that you have given when you registered. If you no longer have this address, email us anyhow and we will do what we can.
How can I submit/update my picture?
Log in, click your picture on the right menu, and select Upload Avatar. Then click the Browse button, select the image you want to upload and click Save.
Can I add more than one image into my profile?
At this moment, no. If you would like to have this feature, please leave us feedback about it. If many people request the same thing, we are likely to add it.
How do I change my password?
Log in, click your picture on the right menu, and select 'Change your password'. Then enter your new password two times into the given fields. The password must be given two times, so that you wouldn't accidentally mistype it.
Should I use the 'Remember Me' option in the login?
Use the option only on your own computer. Remember not to use it in a public place or on your friends computer, since this would allow anybody to enter with your ShadoWeb account and pretend to be you.
Posting and Editing Comments
What is the difference between a conversation and a comment?
A conversation is a thread of comments, a reciprocal conversation between two or more persons. A comment is one post on such thread.
How can I start a new conversation?
Go to any Shadow and click 'Start a conversation'. You must have an account and be logged in.
How do I post comments?
At the bottom of each conversation you will find fields for the title, comment and the tags. When you have properly filled them out, select 'Post comment'. You must have an account and be logged in.
How can I edit comments I've previously posted?
You may only remove/edit posts that you have written within the last 24 hours. After that the post becomes permanent, and can not be changed in any way. This is to protect the integrity of the whole chain of discussion.
Within that 24 hour time frame you may edit your comment by viewing it and clicking a small icon that remotely looks like a pen on a bubble.
Deleting happens by clicking the icon next to that, one which looks like a bubble and a small gray... thing.

What are the tags and how do I use them?
Tags are keywords, which are used to describe and categorize content. If you post a comment about problems with your mobile phone, you might give tags 'mobile', 'phone', 'problem' and maybe make and model of that phone.
Information may be easily found by others when all content is properly tagged.
Tags are separated by commas. You should always use the most basic form of the words, so you would NOT use tags 'problems mobile phones'.

You may use underline and bold.

Do posts have size limitations?
Yes, but you are not likely to hit it with any normal post.
Do I get an alert when someone comments my post?
Not yet.
How can I be sure that postings in ShadoWeb are genuine?
You can't. You must use your own discretion and common sense. High positive score may indicate that other users trust that post.
How do I add conversations into my favorites?
There are two ways to do this. In main view, where conversations are listed, you see a small star to the left of the title. Clicking this will add the conversation to your favorites. Clicking it again will remove it.
Within conversation use the 'Add to favorites' link on top the page.

How to report spam/misuse/harassment?
You will find a link to report spam at the bottom of each conversation page. You may use this same link to report any misuse or harassment.
